In the Chrome Web Store extensions, the developers announced a change in the rules. The new updates are intended to reduce spam in the service from Google. All the necessary changes will be made in the extension by the developers in the near future. The new rules will come into effect on August 27, 2020.
The new rules include six main prohibitions :
- Developers will not be able to place multiple permissions that have similar functionality at once.
- Do not post too much information or enter incorrect metadata. Developers should also avoid long names and overly long descriptions.
- Developers will be prohibited from carrying out various manipulations that could advance the expansion. This refers to cheating the rating, buying reviews, cheating the number of downloads.
- Extensions that are intended to launch any applications or web pages are not allowed.
- Do not host extensions that send a large number of messages or send user data. Such extensions will be blocked immediately.

Google has also banned all extensions that send messages to users and have no option to unsend or select specific users.
